2/17/11 Build Update

So the last Thursday meeting is over, if you missed it here is what happened:

  • Tom B put a larger gear on the shoulder of the arm to help it. It still needs the newer chain which has been cut to be put on then it should be operable.
  • The redefined mini-bot now climbs!
  • Made a slide table for deploying the minibot using drawer slider and attached it to the robot
    • It shoots out about 22 inches, 18 inches is the minimum needed to successfully deploy
    • It deploys from the side of the robot
  • Installed the new band-saw blade on the vertical band saw
  • Played with flexible shafts for the potentiometers
  • We weighed the robot, arm, and mini-bot deployment system along with extra plywood on it and it was 101 lbs, so we appear to be doing fantastic weight wise.
  • Spray painted the backs of the plexiglass sponsors signs purple
  • The extra purple LED underglow lights came in. We will attach them Saturday

So for a Thursday night meeting (and the last Thursday meeting of this build season) we got a lot done! The next meeting is the extended Saturday meeting on 2/19/11 from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Hope to see you there as it is the last and biggest push for a meeting.

Awards Meeting Update

Last night Mr. Krueger met with several team members and they made an award submission in all categories of awards. Special thanks to Max for seeing that this got done! They left about 7:15 pm and Dan Faulkner was still there working on the wiring on the robot. Dan said he was staying until he got it done! Thank you Dan!

The next true build meeting is tomorrow (2/17/11) from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Mr. Krueger has to attend a school board meeting so he will be leaving around 7 and Brian will close it down.

2/15/11 Build Update

So here's your build update for today (2/15/11):

  • The new aluminum gripper added a lot of extra weight to lift for the arm
  • The shoulder seems weak once again, so we experimented with strengthening it.
  • The elbow seems weak again too, we are going to get a bigger gear for it
  • Lots of programming on arm figuring out where to stop it and such
  • discussed adding limit switches to arm along with physical stops

And that was our final Tuesday build season meeting for 2011, it is getting down to the wire! As a reminder there is a short Awards Submitters only meeting tomorrow from 5:30pm to 6:30pm to submit everything for the awards we are entering this year.

The next true build season meeting is Thursday (2/17/11) from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
